Excursions & Adventures

I am going to list the ones we have done and then some we have not.  Keep in mind that the Loftis’ may not venture too far from Novaispania on this trip due to the absolute awesomeness of our accomodations!  Don’t let that cramp your style.  If you want to take off and do anything on the list be my guest and I am happy to provide advice.

 What we Have Done

 Medano Beach

This is where the waters are calm, and swimming is safe.  All the amenities are available for the trill-seeking tourist: jet skis, SUP, banana boat rides, parasailing, etc.  It is also a great place to splash, swim, and soak.  They have protected swim areas so that watercraft doesn’t come into contact with the swimmers and weaker swimmers can grab hold of the buoy lines.

A shuttle bus is available from the PBSB resort.  You reserve a spot and the busses leave BPSB at the top of the hour to the Pueblo Bonito Rose Hotel.  When you reserve your spot to go to The Rose you book your return for later that day at the same time.  The buses back to PBSB from the Rose leave on the 30’s (3:30, 4:30, etc.).  You will have full use of the giant pool at The Rose and walk-on access to Medano Beach.

Mike Doyle Surf School

Mike Doyle Surf School is in a protected cove at Cabo Azul awith a soft surf break that is fantastic for learning to surf.  The instructors are patient, and Joey gave it a whirl.  He was only good for about 30 minutes, so I used the rest of the lesson.  It is about 20 miles from Novaispania to Cabo Azul where the surf school is located.  It is a 35-45 minute taxi ride and about $30/person each way.

Joey surfing in Cabo

Todos Santos and Hotel California

Todos Santos is a unique surf community located an hour north up the peninsula on the Pacific side. Along the way you can stop at Cerritos beach which is a great surf break and a fun place to swim. Todos is home to the real Hotel California, lots of art shops, restaurants, and the town has a super chill vibe.

Again, a car rental for the day is likely the best option for transport.

Swimming with Whale Sharks

This is a true adventure.  Head to the city of La Paz, about an hour past Todos Santos.  The guides will take you to an area in the bay literally teaming with gentle whale sharks.  You swim with snorkel gear and a life vest.  We did an ecological tour led by biologists and good people looking out for these creatures.  Joey freaked at first but then got into it.

I would not recommend combining this with the Todos Santos trip.  The 4+ hour drive and 4 hours of whale sharking make it a long day.  Not sure if this is the same outfit we hooked up with but it looks like a good one.

San Jose del Cabo

San Jose del Cabo, not Los Cabos the town near where we will be staying, is a more sophisticated version of the “Cabo” experience.  The town is located about 23 miles from Noviaspania or about a 45-minute ride.  About $35 USD each person each way.  The town has a beautiful plaza, art shops, tourist shops, cantinas, and fine dining.

The big draw is the Thursday night art walk where art and jewelry from local artists and craftsmen are sold in the plaza.  There is a fantastic Saturday market down by the river and some of the best and swanky farm-to-table restaurants are located just outside of the city center.

Baby Turtle Release

Between September and mid-December, the baby Green Sea Turtle eggs hatch and the baby turtles make their way to the sea.  This is a great sight and should occur at the beach just a ¼ mile walk from Novaispania.  We will want to contact the Pacifica of the PBSB concierge for information.

Dolphin Encounter

This was a one and done but Joey was too young to participate at the time.  Jeanne can tell you about her experience with our other kids.  It is located downtown at the marina, about 3 miles from Novaispania

Hike to Faro Viejo and Faro Nuevo

Faro Viejo is the oldest lighthouse on the west coast of the Americas.  It has been reconstructed and is a short hike from Noviaspania (about 3 miles).  The hike is uphill to Faro Nuevo, the newer lighthouse which is still in operation and replaced Faro Viejo 60 some-odd years ago.  The views are spectacular and best hiked at dawn to see the sunrise.

El Arco, Lover’s Beach and Divorce Beach

You can take a water taxi for about $15/person from Medano Beach out to El Arco and Lover’s Beach. It is a great place for photo opportunities, but you need to be weary of the surf and exit and entry out of the water taxi. Calm seas it is great. Choppy and it’s a nightmare. Best to do in early morning.

Fishing Charters

You can take a fishing charter out of the Cabo Marina. We recommend Hiram Fishing Cabo Charter, Fishermans Restaurant. +52 624 188 4843. The boats leave early in the morning.

What we Haven’t Done (at least not with Joey)

There are a few things we have not done and a little research on the web can help you locate a tour.

• Zip line adventure

• Sunset cruise

• Snorkeling cruise

• Deep sea fishing for Striped Marlin and Dorado

• ATV excursions

Again, let me know if you have any questions and don’t be surprised if the Loftis bunch is perfectly content hanging by the pool, a trip or two to town, daily pickleball, and an excursion over to Medano Beach. For the rest of yawl, go get it!
